FAQs

What kind of musical background do you need to join Mosaic?

Previous choir or instrumental experience is helpful, but perfection isn't expected. New members participate in a brief audition so we can place them in the appropriate section and help them succeed. New participants are guided through a short audition and interview to begin.

How are choir parts determined?

Unlike traditional choirs arranged by parts (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass), the Mosaic Choir performs in quartets. Each quartet comprises a soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. If we have an unequal number of individuals, the ‘quartets’ may swell in numbers, but you would still sing within your assigned group.

We're currently seeking tenors, baritones, and basses. Our soprano and alto sections are currently full.

How much does it cost to join the Mosaic Ensemble?

Joining the choir and orchestra is completely free. We have a suggested donation of $30 per member, but all donations are processed privately. Allan Skoog, the conductor, has no knowledge of who has and who has not donated.

As a 501 (c) 3 organization, all donations are tax-deductible.

Where does Mosaic host rehearsals?

Choir rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, September through May, at Westgate Chapel in Edmonds in the downstairs choir room. (22901 Edmonds Way, Edmonds, WA 98020).

The orchestra joins the choir in rehearsals a few weeks before each event.

If a concert is local to our area, we may perform dress rehearsals at its venue. Any changes in the rehearsal location are communicated to our ensemble in advance.

Do singers perform from memory?

Yes. Choir members memorize their music before each concert, while orchestra members perform using sheet music.

What's the time commitment?

Choir rehearses Monday evenings from September through May, with additional rehearsals before concerts. Members are encouraged to attend regularly and spend time learning their music between rehearsals.
